Myofascial Release
While I was working towards my BA in Psychology at the University of Washington, I volunteered at the King County Crisis Clinic, now known as Crisis Connections. The training to work on the phone lines was an intense six week crash course learning how to actively listen, have empathy for emotionally stressful situations we have never personally dealt with, and how to help the caller SELF RESOURCE. This is a lesson I have continued to come back to time and time again in my personal life as well as with my massage clients. The human body is intelligent, always seeking homeostasis. Any pain or discomfort in our bodies is a communication that something needs to change. The gentle myofascial release technique I practice allows me to listen and feel into where the tension and pain are coming from (it isn’t always where you think it is!) and then encourage and create space for your body to self-resource to release tension in its own time and way allowing for long term results while increasing body awareness.
What some of my clients feel while experiencing myofascial work with a gentle touch:
Deep Relaxation
Pulsing/throbbing in seemingly unrelated parts of their body
Cold/heat in various parts of their body as blood and lymphatic circulation increases
Movement in their digestive tract as their body transitions into a parasympathetic state
Achiness in troubled areas that dissipates as the body realigns itself to a more optimal state
